Katrina: "...a test of our moral compass..."

There aren't enough words to tell how angry I am at the response of my government to this disaster. It is so much worse than it had to be.

The only thing for it right now is to do something, maybe offer shelter.

Or, donate here or here.

Meanwhile, the soul of New Orleans survives.

i think the overhead view of the schoolbus parking lot full of unused busses helps to establish that it wasnt just a federal failure but a local one as well
in another thought:
has anyone noticed that in the face of devastation, lawlessness, no electricty or clean water and little hope of things getting better the next day that iraqi civilians have conducted themselves in a more moralistic manner than americans?

It's a good point, brico. But the ultimate responsibility should stay with the feds - according to the Dept. of Homeland Security's own disaster plan:

"When an incident or potential incident is of such severity, magnitude, and/or complexity that it is considered to be an Incident of National Significance ... the Secretary of Homeland Security ... initiates action to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from the incident." (page 15)
